Tips For Insurance Reimbursement

Your child’s speech therapy and evaluations may be covered fully or partially under your insurance. We know dealing with insurance can be complicated and time consuming. Although The Speech Space does not currently participate directly with insurance companies, we are more than happy to help you navigate insurance for speech therapy! Here are some helpful tips and ideas for getting reimbursement for your child’s evaluation and/or therapy sessions:
  • The majority of plans will cover a certain number of therapy sessions per year or cover up to a certain dollar amount. Reimbursement with insurance usually starts after you meet your deductible. Call your insurance company to learn more about your particular benefits. You will need to find out about your “out of network” benefits.
  • Your HR department can be a great resource as well. They may be able to help you figure out the best options for coverage of out of network speech therapy.
  • If your plan has limits on the number of visits for therapy, you will need to ask your insurance if it is possible to request additional visits. If so, ask your insurance for forms in order to authorize additional visits (since most children will need more than the typical 15-30 visits allotted per year). We can help you fill these out!
  • Your insurance company can direct you to the forms you will need when submitting your paid invoices.
  • It is very important that your insurance agent knows you are paying out of pocket for services! Reimbursement checks should be made payable to you and mailed directly to you as well.
  • It will also be beneficial to ask your insurance company what your reimbursement rate will be for each session. In addition, it will be beneficial to know what codes your insurance company reimburses for speech therapy services, so we can work with you in submitting.
  • Ask us for a diagnostic code, referred to as an ICD-10 code, so that you may inquire if the diagnosis is covered under your plan
  • Check to see what amounts are allowed for the CPT codes (Current Procedural Terminology) we will use on your invoice.
  • They always say the early bird catches the worm! Submitting your The Speech Space, LLC invoices and copies of your child’s treatment session notes as quickly as possible will help speed up the process in which you get reimbursed.
