Types of Sessions

Individual Therapy Sessions

We offer individual sessions for children who need to target and develop specific skills in a one-on-one environment. Individual sessions are typically a total of 1 hour, with 50 minutes for treatment and 5-10 minutes at the end of sessions to discuss details of the session, explain recommendations and homework, as well as, answer any questions. Notes are available via our secure portal system. Additionally, we know sometimes children need shorter session times to help maximize attention and endurance. In those cases we are happy to be flexible and provide shorter sessions as needed.

Group Therapy Sessions

Group sessions are typically offered for children who need to work on developing and generalizing social and pragmatic language skills with their peers; however, groups can be developed at the discretion of the therapist and family based on the skills being targeted. Groups range from two to six children. Group sessions are a total of 1 hour, with 50 minutes for treatment and 5-10 minutes at the end of sessions to discuss details of the session, explain recommendations and homework, as well as, answer any questions. Notes are available for your records via our secure portal system after each session.

Other Services

Evaluations

Evaluations are conducted in order to determine specific areas of weakness with a child’s speech and/or language skills. We have a variety of standardized protocols and the ability to cover all the different domains of speech and language. These include, but are not limited to, articulation, phonological processes, oral motor weaknesses, fluency, expressive language (your child’s use of language), receptive language (your child’s understanding of language), language processing (your child’s ability to understand and use vocabulary, grammar & follow directions seamlessly when the burden of language is on them), critical thinking, problem-solving and social skills. Each evaluation comes with a full, formal written report which includes test results, detailed analysis of performance, recommendations, treatment goals and, if applicable, a diagnosis.

Free Consultations

Consultations are offered to families for a variety of reasons. Maybe you have specific concerns and want to know next steps? Or a teacher or your pediatrician has suggested seeking out speech therapy, but you aren’t exactly sure why. Our phone consultations help families identify if their child  may be at risk for speech, language, or feeding issues, narrow down the scope of what may be the impacting or underlying reasons for concerns, and take place with one of the owners, Monica or Megan. Our consultations can help you figure out the best plan of action for your child!

Professional Development

The Speech Space offers in-services to DC schools, including preschools and daycares. Our in-services focus on child communication development and helping your teachers identify red-flags with a child’s development. However, we are happy to tailor our in-services to specific areas or concerns particular to your facility.
